Today’s neighborhood spotlight focuses on one of Ann Arbor’s secret neighborhoods, Ann Arbor Woods.

LIVING IN ANN ARBOR WOODS

The Ann Arbor Woods neighborhood is truly one of the town’s best kept secrets. Surrounded by some of the biggest and best parks in Ann Arbor, yet conveniently located within ten minutes of downtown, this location fuses urban convenience with a beautiful natural setting. Secluded tree-lined streets and sidewalks provide a truly comfortable and friendly neighborhood feel. Ann Arbor Woods offers some of the best value in town considering its close proximity to downtown and The University of Michigan.

Most of the homes in this neighborhood were built between the 1950s-1960s and are tri-level brick-ranch styles, though there are some 2 story colonials dispersed throughout. With square footage ranging between 1,100 and 2,356, these homes boast an array of floor plans designed to meet the needs of families of all sizes. “The neighborhood has gently rolling hills and tree-lined, curving streets. And you're close to the University of Michigan, the highways (both 23 and 94), and Ypsilanti which has more fun restaurants and shops.” a local resident, Elizabeth states.

Located between Washtenaw and Packard, the Ann Arbor Woods neighborhood is hidden away from the mainstream.  Situated next to both Buhr Park and County Farm Park, you are close to all sorts of recreation.  Buhr Park features a six-lane, 25 yard pool with a deep well and a separate 0" depth entry children's wading pool with interactive play toys. It also features 39 acres of rolling hills, picnic areas with grills, a children's play area, softball diamonds, soccer fields and outdoor tennis courts. County Farm Park is a 141 acre park with an assortment of nature trails, woods, etc and is also the location of the Meri Lou Murray Recreation Center.

Allen elementary school is located in the heart of the neighborhood, and the children can walk to school without having to cross a busy street. Close to shopping and the highways, the location couldn't be better. Residents are also just minutes from downtown Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan, US-23 & I-94, and Briarwood mall.

We spoke further with a resident of Ann Arbor Woods, Elizabeth Cole, who is currently preparing to sell her property on Colony Road. We took this opportunity to get the real inside scoop from a resident on why someone searching for their forever home may want to choose Ann Arbor Woods and the city of Ann Arbor.

“I like Ann Arbor because it has a small town feeling but it's also got a lot of the things you'd find in a big city, like great restaurants and an active music scene.” Elizabeth states, “I also love the plentiful green space. This house is walking distance to two lovely parks.”

“Our neighborhood is warm and friendly. We have a block party every year, and during the pandemic our neighbors formed two different bands and put on free concerts in their driveways.” Her insight showcases the culture within Ann Arbor Woods, and just how special the neighborhood is.

When asked, Elizabeth gave us a list of some of her local favorites:

  • Coffee Shop?  York

  • Restaurant? Eat

  • Pizza? Bigalora

  • Grocery Store? Produce Station, Trader Joe’s, and Whole Foods

Ann Arbor Woods provides an outstanding community for its residents, but what makes the homes there unique? Elizabeth shared what it was that drew them to this property, “When I first saw this house I fell in love with the very private, enclosed backyard. I like the openness between the living room, kitchen, and dining rooms. And I enjoy all the extra space we have in the basement.”

The homes in Ann Arbor Woods are so breathtaking… They are even movie material! Elizabeth mentioned “This neighborhood is so cute that an independent filmmaker asked to shoot a scene on my front porch.”

Elizabeth mentions how this area has been one of his favorite aspects of their property, “Locally, we enjoy walking my dog in County Farm Park, biking down Huron Parkway to Gallop Park, and going to concerts at the Ark.”
